Leesburg DMV taking huge new space on Fort Evans Road

It’s one of the most frequent questions we’ve been getting in recent months — what tenants are going into a new retail center that’s under construction on Fort Evans Road, near the Home Depot store.

Now we know — the answer is just one tenant: the Leesburg Department of Motor Vehicles. The agency is moving its operations a few blocks up the road into the new space.

The new center — known formally as Fort Evans Square — includes a roughly 12,000 s.f. building that will become the new DMV.

“The new, larger location will be able to serve a higher volume of customers,” said Jessica Cowardin, a spokesperson for the Virginia DMV.

There is also a new hotel under construction on the property which, as The Burn has reported, is slated to be a Home2 Suites hotel from the Hilton chain.

Fort Evans Square

The new DMV location with ample parking with likely come as a relief to many residents around Loudoun County.

The current, well-worn DMV building is tucked back behind a gas station, a McDonald’s, a tire shop and other businesses on a narrow parcel of land off Edwards Ferry Road NE.

The new building — which has an address of 400 Fort Evans Road — is up and the interior is being put together as we speak. We’re told the big move into the space should happen sometime this fall.

I thought a new location for Dolce and Ciabatta was going in there?

No Dolce & Ciabatta is supposed to be going into the shopping center next door, where Cici’s Pizza used to be.

Hoping they do a better job of opening more windows and getting people in and out. DMV is one of the worst run in VA, next to VEC(unemployment office).

Is there an opening date for the hotel yet? The original article said April 2021 but it still doesn’t seem to be open.
