Ace Hardware coming to former Rite Aid spot in Purcellville

Construction has been underway at the former Rite Aid Pharmacy in Purcellville, causing much speculation in the community, based on the number of messages sent to The Burn about it. Now we know the answer — it’s a new Ace Hardware.

A banner has gone up next to the building on the northeast corner of Main Street and Ken Culbert Jr. Road announcing the news. Of course, the “help wanted” ads for a new Purcellville Ace Hardware that started appearing online weeks ago were another big clue.

The new store will be part of the Costello Ace Hardware brand. The Costello family owns nearly 40 Ace locations in New York (especially on Long Island), Maryland and Virginia. In the Northern Virginia area, they own an Ace in Warrenton.

Of course, the most famous hardware store in Purcellville — and probably all of Loudoun — is the iconic Nichols Hardware a mile away on North 21st Street. It’s been in business since 1914 and the Nichols family’s roots in Loudoun go back to 1742.

No word yet when the new Ace Hardware in P’ville will open.

Thank God. Can’t wait for an alternative to the famous Nichols Hardware.

So excited to have an alternative to Nichols. Nichols stop trying a long time ago.
