New Goodwill store in the works for eastern Loudoun

Goodwill is looking to upgrade its services in eastern Loudoun County with a brand new store and donation center. It’s coming to a spot just off busy State Road 28.

The 18,000 s.f. project is going to be built at the Guilford Station development near SR28 and West Church Road. That’s the same spot where a 7-Eleven convenience store and The Human Bean drive-thru coffee are located.

The Burn first mentioned the Goodwill store last June in a report about a DQ Chill & Grill possibly coming to that center. There’s no update on the status of the DQ, but the Goodwill project is moving forward.

The new building — which will include a retail store and a drive-thru donation lane with a canopy — will be a nice improvement over Goodwill’s current spot on Enterprise Street in Sterling.

That location is in a strip retail center crowded with other businesses around it. People making donations have to wind through traffic headed to the other stores in order to drive around to the back of the building and queue up for the donation spot.

While that Goodwill location probably made sense many years ago, as the population center in Loudoun has moved westward, the new location — right off of a main road like 28 — will provide easier access to residents from other areas around the eastern portion of the county.

No timetable for the new Goodwill store to open. Construction hasn’t even started yet, but we will keep you posted.
