A ribbon cutting ceremony was held today for a new lunchtime eatery in downtown Leesburg. It’s called Bender’s Brooklyn Bites and features a New York City-inspired hot dog menu.

We’re talking all-beef natural casing hot dogs topped with ingredients like chili, Cheez Whiz, sauteed onions, and more. Specialties include the Coney Island Dog, the Italian, and a hot dog with sauerkraut and deli mustard charmingly called the Dirt Dog.

They will also have fresh-baked cookies, funnel cookies, and other treats.

Bender’s Brooklyn Bites — which officially opens today — has taken the daytime spot that used to be Bender’s Bagels. That entity — which focused on a breakfast crowd — closed last year while owner Paul Zangos worked on his new concept.

The location of Brooklyn Bites is at 10 South King Street, which downtown denizens know as the home of the hip nightspot Tarbenders.

Brooklyn Bites will be open the same days that Tarbenders is — Wednesday through Saturday. Bites will open at 11 a.m. and in the afternoon, as happy hour approaches, the restaurant will just move seamlessly into the Tarbenders crowd at night.
