Ashburn rec center rising along Broadlands Boulevard

Drivers along the Greenway and along Broadlands Boulevard in Ashburn may be catching glimpses of a large steel structure rising near the Clyde’s Willow Creek Farm restaurant. It’s the long-anticipated Ashburn Recreation and Community Center.

County officials have shared a new update on the construction process. The steel framing is going up that will support the future building. Underground plumbing work is underway and the pouring of concrete floor slabs is next on the “to do” list.

As The Burn has been reporting for several years now, the project is a 117,000 s.f. community center that will include a 50-meter competition swimming pool as well as a leisure pool.

There will also be a spa, a full-size gym, a soft sensory playroom, a multipurpose room with a catering and teaching kitchen, plus classrooms, offices and meeting spaces.

Outside the center will include a multi-use trail around the property, a large courtyard with seating, a splash play area and playground equipment.

Construction should wrap up in the spring or summer of 2025. At that point, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services will take over the building to operate it.
