Loudoun has a new peri peri restaurant. The latest location of Peri Peri Original has opened at the South Riding Market Square shopping center.
Peri peri is a pepper-based seasoning that comes from the former Portuguese territories in southern Africa. It is most famously used to marinate or top grilled chicken, with various degrees of heat or spiciness.
Besides the chicken, the menu at Peri Peri Original includes pitas and wraps, rice dishes, sandwiches, tacos, and burgers.
The new Peri Peri Original in South Riding has a unique interior design unlike any of the other locations. The owners wanted to give it a special look for the community, using colors that play off the spices and citrus used in the restaurant’s dishes. (See images in carousel above.)
Peri Peri Original is an international franchise brand. There are 15 open or in the works in Virginia and Maryland including the new South Riding store.
There is also a Peri Peri Original in Ashburn at the Broadlands Village Center. That store opened in 2021.
Peri Peri Original is not to be confused with Nando’s Peri-Peri, another international brand with locations in Virginia, DC, Maryland as well as Texas and Illinois. Locally, there is a Nando’s restaurant at One Loudoun in Ashburn.
