New mascot unveiled for Loudoun United FC

The Loudoun United Football Club has signed a very special new member of the team. It’s a miniature horse — or is it a pony — that will be the new official mascot for the team.

For now, Loudoun United FC is just calling it a pegasus — in honor of the winged horse of mythology that also appears in the Loudoun United logo. But local fans have the chance to get in on the naming of the tiny steed.

Suggestions for the mascot’s name are being accepted through end of business today — Friday, March 16. The Top 5 finalists for the name will be announced on Sunday at Loudoun United’s home opener match. You can submit your best idea for a name here.

From that point, fans will be able to vote online for their favorite name with the winning entry being announced at the April 1 home match.

By the way – in case you were wondering — the pegasus comes from a partnership between Loudoun United and Hogback Mountain Pony Rides in Leesburg.

The little equine will live at the Hogback Mountain farm when there’s not a home match. When there is a home game, he will be at Segra Field where kids can interact with him — including petting him and taking photos with him.
