Another day, another new Dunkin’ on its way to Loudoun

Apparently America really does run on Dunkin’.

Dunkin’ Donuts — or just plain Dunkin’ as they prefer it — continues its inexorable march across the Loudoun County retail scene. It looks like a new location is in the works for Leesburg.

According to online documents, the latest Dunkin’ is coming to the Marketplace at Potomac Station. That’s the Giant-anchored shopping center off Battlefield Parkway NE that is also home to First Watch and Best Buy.

The donut and coffee shop will be taking over a former bank building on the property and converting it into a drive-thru Dunkin’ store.

This will be the third Dunkin’ Donuts in Leesburg — after the locations on East Market Street and at the Oaklawn development near the airport. If you count the locations inside Dulles International, there are already at least a dozen Dunkin’ locations across Loudoun County.

At least two more are under construction right now — across the street from One Loudoun in Ashburn, the other at Braddock Road and Gum Spring Road in southern LoCo.

While The Burn certainly doesn’t have any insight into the planning at Dunkin’ HQ, we do know that many companies intentionally set out to saturate a particular geographic area in order to keep out competitors. It often just makes good business sense.

Is that what’s happening here? It’s hard to say, but it’s also hard to argue that Dunkin’ doesn’t already dominate the local donut scene. Area residents who’ve been wanting a Krispy Kreme or a Texas Donuts to set up shop in Loudoun will have to just keep on dreaming.
