New in NoVa: Japanese crepe company entering DC market

The Burn is always fascinated by new restaurant concepts and wondering which ones will catch on. Just a few years back, many folks hadn’t heard of Nashville hot chicken sandwiches or acai bowls and now they are all the rage.

The latest concept to catch our eye is Japanese crepes. T-swirl Crepe is expanding across the country and has announced that Arlington will be its first spot in Northern Virginia.

The brand’s team members use a gluten-free rice batter to make the crispy thin crepes and then fill them with a variety of sweet or savory ingredients and toppings.

An example of a sweet T-swirl crepe is the Banana Chocolate — a crepe filled with sliced bananas, chocolate truffles, chocolate custard cream, whipped yogurt, chocolate sauce, and granola. Others include a Mango Raspberries crepe and one called the Matcha Azuki Bean.

On the savory side, T-swirl has an Egg White Mushroom Truffle with egg white, fresh shiitake mushrooms, baby spinach, truffle oil, cheddar cheese, and tofu sauce. Other examples include the Okinawa Hot Dog and the Spicy Crabmeat.

You can see the full T-swirl menu here.

T-swirl opened its first location in New York and now has more than 30 restaurants open or in the works in 14 states and Canada.

A specific location in Arlington hasn’t been announced yet. The company’s website just says “coming soon.” We can’t help but wonder if Japanese crepes are the wave of the future and years from now, there will be crepe restaurants everywhere you turn.
