Evidence mounts that Whole Foods in Reston is moving

Regular readers — especially those in the Reston area — will remember how The Burn was the first media outlet to report that the Whole Foods in Reston was considering a major move. It was one of our Morning Mysteries back in November 2022.

An image posted online — most likely by mistake — showed the former Best Buy space at The Spectrum at Reston Town Center was becoming a Whole Foods.

While now, evidence is mounting that this move is indeed afoot. A building permit application has been submitted in Fairfax County for utility upgrades to the old Best Buy space.

And who are the upgrades for? You guessed it — Whole Foods. As we like to say — never doubt The Burn.

The grocery store brand currently is located in the Plaza America shopping center off of Sunset Hills Road. If and when the move happens, it will take over a roughly 46,000 s.f. space roughly a mile to the north at The Spectrum.

So far, there is still no official word from anyone in a position of authority about the move, but it sure seems like the cat is out of the bag.

It’s reminiscent of when Trader’s Joe’s was coming to One Loudoun in Ashburn and no one would officially confirm it — even after there was a “Trader Joe’s Coming Soon” banner hanging on the store.
