New gourmet market in the works for Purcellville

It looks like a new gourmet market called Purcé is in the works for Purcellville. That’s according to the store’s nascent website.

The address is listed as 500 East Main Street. That’s the old house known as the Edmundson Building at the corner of East Main and South 12th Street.

We peeked in the windows and don’t see any sign of work underway yet, but the website seems to promise great things.

“Providing gourmet food items sourced globally and locally from farms around Harpers Ferry
in a charming historical location,” the landing page reads. “We also serve beer, wine and spirits.”

While the photos on the site are likely stock images, it looks like Purcé will feature things like high-quality meats, cheeses, spices, and other foods. They also address the name of the new store.

“We chose the name Purcé to be an homage to the town and its deep history,” it says. “Purcé was abbreviated from Purcellville and is a play on “per se”, meaning “by or in itself or themselves; intrinsically.” We are original in thoughts and concepts and earnestly strive to bring the Town foods that excite and enrich the mind honoring that foods are healing and provide sustenance for the soul.”

We reached out to the folks bringing Purcé to life, but haven’t heard back yet. So we are looking forward to getting more details on the goods they will carry and when they hope to open.
