Moo Thru ice cream shop opens this week in Herndon

The long-awaited brick-and-mortar Moo Thru ice cream shop is ready to roll in Herndon. The big day is this coming Friday — June 7 — and we’ve got your first look inside.

At the same location — 317 Spring Street — there’s also a new coffee shop from the Moo Thru Herndon team getting ready to open soon.

Fans of the Virginia-based ice cream brand will recall that it was a year ago this week that plans were announced for the new store. Work has been ongoing ever sense — but permitting and construction took longer than anticipated.

In the meanwhile, a Moo Thru ice cream truck was parked outside the store and served up cones last summer and fall. The truck started serving again at the Herndon location this April, but starting Friday evening — service will transition to the new store.

The truck will still be available for special events.

Moo Thru has several other stores and trucks scattered around the region, but the Herndon one will be the first location closer in to the heavily populated core of the Northern Virginia area.

Moo Thru will open this Friday at 6 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Then, the hours will expand to daytime and evening hours going forward.

Meanwhile, in another week or two, the folks at Moo Thru will open their second concept in the shared space. It’s called Old Town Coffee.

Old Town Coffee has a distinct and separate space from Moo Thru, but they are joined by a big, open wall between the two.

Old Town Coffee will feature hot and cold coffee beverages as well as plant-based energy drinks, grab-and-go breakfast items and more. Products from the Reston-based Nordic Knot pretzel maker will also be available.

Moo Thru will also have a cooler selling fresh milks — including thick, creamy chocolate milk.
