Pit Stop closing at Gilberts Corner after 17 years

It’s the end of an era for barbecue fans in Loudoun County. This weekend will be the last for The Pit Stop at Gilberts Corner.

For 17 years, the pop-up barbecue joint has been cooking up and selling its ribs, chicken and other items from the rural spot where Highways 50 and 15 meet.

The brand — which also has a brick-and-mortar location in Sterling at the Cascades Marketplace center — is opening a new full-service Pit Stop location in Maryland. This will spread them too thin, so the Gilberts Corner kiosk will be ending.

“We are open extended hours at Gilberts this weekend to say good bye to all our loyal customers,” said Glynis Thomas, part of the family that operates The Pit Stop.

On Saturday, July 6, The Pit Stop will be open until nightfall. On Sunday, July 7 — the last day — they plan on closing at 4 p.m.

The Sterling location will remain open.
