Work underway on new Hallmark Store in Leesburg

We are happy to report that work has finally gotten underway on the large, new Hallmark store coming to Leesburg. The Burn passed by today and workers were readying the space.

We first broke the news back in April about plans for a 6,000+ s.f. store to open in the Leesburg Plaza shopping center off East Market Street.

That’s the same plaza with the Giant grocery store, the Party City, the Planet Fitness and many other retailers.

The new Hallmark store is going into the spot that was previously the Books-a-Million bookstore. That store closed a year ago — in September 2023.

Temporary signage is now up in the windows announcing that the store is coming soon. They have also started hiring.

A peek in the windows of the space shows that all the fixtures from the bookstore have been cleared out. The crews we saw were apparently removing wallpaper adhered to the walls.

It doesn’t appear that any of the Hallmark fixtures and shelves have been moved in yet, but that should be the next logical step once the space is ready.

The new Leesburg store will be part of the Banner’s Hallmark group that has Hallmark stores throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Still no word on when the store will open. You can bet they would like to be up and running in time for the upcoming holiday season, but it’s not clear if that will happen yet or not.
