New Doughlab malasada shop getting closer in Loudoun

The new Doughlab Hawaiian donut shop is getting closer to opening day. The sign has gone up over the space in Sterling and interior construction is nearly done.

Hawaiian donuts, or malasadas, are fried pastries filled with sweet or savory fillings and then topped with powdered sugars or other toppings.

For longtime area residents, Doughlab is the new name for the former B. Doughnut, which had several locations in Loudoun. They rebranded a year or so ago.

Now, they are opening a new brick-and-mortar location in the Cascades Overlook center in Sterling. That’s the same center with the Harris Teeter grocery store, the Chuy’s Tex-Mex restaurant, and the Burton’s Grill & Bar.

The Burn first told you about Doughlab’s latest plans back in August.

The shop has taken over the space which was previously home to an Abbott’s Frozen Custard shop. Abbott’s closed in late 2023.

We’re told the menu at Doughlab will include filled and non-filled malasada flavors, which will rotate weekly.

The brand’s signature savory dougnut is filled with whipped cream cheese, topped with chives or bacon, and then coated with everything bagel seasoning.

Right now, the folks at Doughlab say they are waiting on some final permitting to come in and some final equipment to arrive. They are hoping for a November opening.
