Fractured Prune Doughnuts, the new doughnut shop coming to the Village at Leesburg, has been in the works for a long time. Now the end is in sight. An update from the owner this week says construction is proceeding, equipment and supplies should start arriving next week and then the grand opening will be right around the corner.

The Burn first told you about Fractured Prune coming to the Village at Leesburg way back in November 2016. (See the story here.) Most recently, they had been hoping to open in June, but as so often happens with construction and new restaurants, things have taken longer than expected.

The first Fractured Prune appeared in 1976 in Ocean City, Maryland. It’s known for its fresh, hot doughnuts where you can pick your own glazes and toppings. The funny name comes from Prunella Shriek, a 19th century O.C. resident who got the nickname due to the many broken bones she suffered playing sports into her 70s. (Years ago, Loudoun had two FP locations, including one in downtown Leesburg, but they have since closed.)

The Village at Leesburg location will be owned and operated by Angela Smith, a retired pilot who flew KC-130s in the Marines. She’s making a big career change, so we’re wishing her good luck as she gets ready to open.
