BIG NEWS: LOUDOUN COUNTY PARKWAY CONNECTION OPENS WEDNESDAY

The new stretch of road will connect LoCo Parkway to Old Ox Road and South Riding.

After years of waiting, the final pieces of the puzzle that is Loudoun County Parkway will be put in place on Wednesday. The extension and new intersection that connects the parkway to Route 606/Old Ox Road will open sometime late Wednesday afternoon or evening.

This will mean Ashburn residents can drive all the way from Route 7 in the north to Route 50 in South Riding with more or less a straight shot, rather than the circuitous route needed today. Mega-shopping centers like Dulles Landing  — with a Walmart, a Dicks Sporting Goods, a Buy Buy Baby, a variety of restaurants and more — will now be just minutes away from much of Ashburn.

Back in July, The Burn told you about VDOT’s anticipated opening date of Sept. 7 and they are right on target. A ribbon cutting is being held Wednesday afternoon. Officials can’t say precisely when they will open all the lanes, but barring any weather delays, look for the new extension to be fully open by rush hour Thursday morning.

This is HUGE! Great job by everyone involved with the project. I used to have to take a winding path or the Greenway whenever I had something to do with a business on 606, so this is really great news.
Hopefully the Greenway owners get the message and stop taking advantage of people and raising their prices so high.
Do they still hold ribbon cutting ceremonies in the rain? Weather looks bad tomorrow and Thursday.

Definitely a needed connection, but worry about the traffic volume on LCP between Ryan Rd. and the Greenway getting even heavier especially during the rush hour periods as well as a longer wait for the left turn off of Ryan onto LCP.
