Wicket Door Pub opens Tuesday in Ashburn

The new pub is on George Washington Boulevard, north of Route 7.

The new Wicket Door Pub on Ashburn’s north side officially opens its doors tomorrow — Tuesday, December 17. The restaurant and bar can be found in the University Commerce Center on George Washington Boulevard, north of Route 7.

The pub’s menu is full of items that could be considered classic American pub fare. We’re talking chili, spinach dip, burgers, sandwiches. The “Pork Spud” caught our eye — it’s a sea salt rubbed baked potato stuffed with pulled pork, butter, sour cream, cheese and green onion. See the full menu below.

Just today, the pub’s team installed the “pièce de résistance” — the final touch — an actual wicket door. A wicket door is something you commonly see on old buildings in Europe — huge, tall doors with a smaller door cut in it for pedestrians to pass through. The smaller door is the wicket door.

On Tuesday, the pub will open at 4:30 and be open for dinner and drinks until 10 p.m. Starting Wednesday, they expect to open for their regular hours, which will include breakfast hours. Their hours are Sunday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. If you’re not familiar with the area, the street address is: 44921 George Washington Blvd.

Beer prices are on the extreme high side. $5.50 for domestics and $7.25 for craft drafts? No way. Too much. This is what’s wrong with so many eateries in Loudoun — they totally gouge on beer prices. Good luck with that.

A “pub” that does not have Harp, Guinness or Bass on draft….I’m sure it will be great.
