AC Moore store in Ashburn to close, part of nationwide shutdown

The store is located in the Ashbrook Commons shopping center.

The AC Moore craft store in Ashburn will reportedly close — part of a nationwide shuttering of all stores in the chain. The store is located in the Ashbrook Commons shopping center near the intersection of Ashburn Village Boulevard and Route 7.

Monday afternoon, the parent company of AC Moore announced that it would close the remaining 145 AC Moore stores.

The plans do call for Michaels, another craft store brand, to take over 40 AC Moore locations and re-open them as Michaels stores. But the list of those 40 stores has not been released yet, so no word whether Ashburn’s AC Moore will be reborn as a Michaels — or close for good.

The announcement comes at a time of great change around the shopping center. The competing Ashbrook Marketplace shopping center has gone up immediately adjacent to Ashbrook Commons. The new center is anchored by a Lidl grocery store, which just opened last week.

There are currently four vacant spaces in Ashbrook Commons, and Rubino’s Pizzeria has already announced they are leaving to move next door to the new shopping center. Another tenant is also reportedly moving, but it hasn’t been formally announced yet. Now comes the AC Moore news.

Meanwhile, the new Ashburn Village Inn Grill & Tap is getting ready to open at Ashbrook Commons, and Choong Man Chicken, a Korean fried chicken restaurant, should open there in 2020.
