Haunted summer camp coming to Shocktober event in Leesburg

The fright fest benefits local residents with disabilities.

For those of you who love a good scare, you’re in luck. Loudoun happens to be home to one of the top Halloween-season haunted houses in the nation (according to Travel + Leisure Magazine). We’re talking about Carlheim Manor in Leesburg — home to the annual Shocktober Haunted House.

The organizers have released details about this year’s event and it sounds like a doozy. The brand new theme is “Camp Carlheim” and tells the story of a haunted summer camp with a dark past.

“The story of Camp Carlheim weaves in the true history of the manor and its property with a story about its haunted past and modern-day terror,” says Matt Smith, creative genius behind Shocktober.

Escape rooms have become all the rage, and this year, Carlheim Manor will feature an escape room inside the haunted house. Tickets and reservations for “Escape Carlheim” need to be booked separately.

This is the tenth year for Shocktober and it has become a major fundraiser for The Arc of Loudoun, a local organization that provides opportunities for the disabled. Last year, Shocktober raised some $600,000 for the charity.
