We know many local residents are eagerly awaiting the arrival of this park, so here is the very latest info.

=====

“Over the last several weeks, construction crews have made progress on many features of the Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park. Interior and exterior demolition of Lee-Hanson House, located on the park property, was completed and the building restoration has begun.”

“Crews continue work to install underground sanitary, storm, and water piping for facilities and park drainage. Utility work and gas line installation has begun. Underground mechanical, electrical and plumbing work for the administration building, four maintenance buildings, and two combined restroom/pavilions continues in preparation for concrete slab to be poured.”

“Current paving work is underway on Hanson Park Drive, the main road providing access within the park. Parking lots at the administration building, a maintenance building, and two combined restroom/pavilions have received concrete curb and gutter, and are ready for pavement.”

“Mass earthwork is ongoing, including work to bring athletic fields and courts to final grade. Two soccer athletic fields are ready for fine grading and turf. Crews have begun grading work at the skate park and are clearing for the asphalt trail. The construction of four site retaining walls is underway.”

“The Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park project includes the design and construction of a new 257-acre regional park located on Evergreen Mills Road in Arcola, between the Brambleton and Willowsford communities.”

“Features of park will include 17 lighted athletic fields, including two artificial turf fields and one cricket field; five ponds; the historic Lee-Hanson House; an event lodge and nature center; a skate plaza and disc golf course; a splash pad and playground with inclusive features and over 75 acres of passive recreational space. Loudoun County’s definition of a “park” seems to be to clear cut 250 acres of trees and rolling fields and build 17 lighted athletic fields, soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, etc. We need more natural green space in this county — not more soccer fields.

      Not wanting new facilities in the name of eco progressiveness doesn’t sound very progressive. Build it and they will come!
