Silver Diner in Ashburn taking shape, adding patio

The new restaurant is under construction at the Commonwealth Center along Loudoun County Parkway.

The new Silver Diner restaurant in Ashburn is going up fast now that work has resumed on the building. And The Burn has learned that the developers are looking at adding an outdoor patio on the side of the building.

Construction had been halted for much of 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic began, but it resumed in December. Now, the iconic art deco-influenced tower on the front of many Silver Diners has taken shape at the Ashburn location at the Commonwealth Center on Loudoun County Parkway at Russell Branch Parkway.

The south side of the building, seen here, could become an outdoor patio. The current parking spaces there would apparently be moved.

And in a clear sign of the times, an amendment to the plans has been filed with Loudoun County looking to add a patio on the south side of the restaurant building. The Silver Diner website indicates just three other locations have outdoor patios. But in this time of social distancing, the addition of a patio makes perfect sense.

The new Silver Diner will be the first location for the brand in Loudoun County. Last word we had from a corporate spokesperson — they are hoping to open the Ashburn restaurant sometime this coming summer.
