New Mexican restaurant planned for downtown Leesburg

Out with the old, in with the new. That could be the motto for the tiny commercial building at 15 Loudoun Street SE in downtown Leesburg. Buford’s Biscuits has no sooner vacated the premises to move to a bigger space than a new restaurant is ready to move in.

The Burn has learned that the former Buford’s spot will become La Taqueria — a fast-casual style restaurant serving up authentic Mexican street food.

The debut menu includes tacos with your choice of carne asada (grilled steak), carnitas (grilled pork), pollo asado (grilled chicken), and carne adobada (marinated steak).

There are also gringas, which are stuffed with meat and cheese and similar to a quesadilla, plus a variety of other dishes.

Side dishes include a secret recipe guacamole and grilled nopales, a type of cactus. You can see the full La Taqueria menu at the bottom of this story.

The restaurant has a fun connection to the building’s previous tenants too. The new owners — who are originally from Mexico City — are also in the construction business and helped build out the Buford’s space a few years back. When they learned from the Buford’s team that the space was becoming available, they decided to pursue a long-held dream of opening a local restaurant and leased the space.

No opening date has been set, but the owners told us that they are aiming to be ready to go before Cinco de Mayo.
