Leesburg man arrested in weekend shooting at Dulles Town Center

Sunday evening, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office announced that they had arrested a man in a shooting that took place earlier in the day at the Dulles Town Center shopping mall.

The suspect is Alan W. Colie of Leesburg. The 31 year-old was arrested and charged in the incident that happened shortly before noon at the mall’s food court.

According to the LCSO, Colie and another person had some sort of interaction that resulted in the shooting. When deputies arrived at the scene within a matter of minutes, they took Colie into custody. Video from the incident circulated heavily on social media Sunday. The victim — reportedly a 21-year-old male — was located outside the mall with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was taken to a local hospital by ambulance where he was in serious condition.

The Sheriff’s Office says at this point, it does not appear the Colie and the victim knew each other. Colie has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm within a building.

Deputies then searched the rest of the mall to make sure there were no other suspects or victims. The mall was closed for the day after the shooting, but is expected to reopen with normal hours today.
