Waffle Kitchen serving up breakfast in Sterling

There’s a new breakfast and brunch restaurant in Sterling, but we wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t know about it. It’s called Waffle Kitchen and it’s hidden in plain sight inside a Mahattan Pizza restaurant.

Yep, the folks who have brought Northern Virginia the wonder that is their pizza and wings are trying their hands at the breakfast business.

We’re told the Waffle Kitchen concept launched about a month ago inside the Manhattan Pizza in the Town Center at Sterling shopping plaza. That’s at Route 7 and Dranesville Road.

From 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, you can dine in or order out from a breakfast menu. Meanwhile, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day, you can order from Manhattan’s regular lunchtime and dinnertime menu.

It makes sense. Restaurants pay the same amount of rent whether they are open all day or only part of the day. If a pizza place can add breakfasts and increase profits, it’s a no brainer.

Did you ever wonder why Dunkin’ Donuts is often paired with Baskin-Robbins? Because people eat donuts in the morning and ice cream the rest of the day.

The Waffle Kitchen menu is filled with items like waffles, pancakes, French toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, and home fries. They also offer a few more eclectic items like scrapple and chipped beef on toast.

We’re told that right now, the only Waffle Kitchen is at the Sterling Manhattan Pizza location. Whether they will expand the concept to its many other locations — including around NoVa as well as Maryland and North Carolina — remains to be seen.
