Lighthouse shaped building in Loudoun has locals wondering

There’s a new building under construction on Defender Drive in the South Riding/Chantilly area just south of Highway 50 that — believe it or not — has a lighthouse on top. It’s got some locals wondering what the heck it is.

Well, the answer is — it’s the new home of the Children’s Lighthouse, an early education center that is building its very first Virginia location here in Loudoun County.

The company is based in Fort Worth, Texas and has multiple locations in that state. All told, Children’s Lighthouse has close to 70 schools open or in the works in nine states.

The center’s provides “a guiding light for children 6 weeks to 12 years old” — thus the lighthouse imagery. Programs include afterschool enrichment for school age children.

When it’s finished, the Children’s Lighthouse in southern Loudoun County should look similar to this.

As you can see in the photos, construction is moving along quickly and the lantern room of the lighthouse on the roof has been installed.

Right now, the owners tell The Burn they are aiming for an October opening.
