A huge new indoor climbing gym is coming to Northern Virginia. It’s called Movement Gyms and this week, the company announced plans for its latest facility to open at Fair Oaks Mall.
The Fair Oaks Mall is at the intersection of Interstate 66 and Route 50.
Movement Fairfax will offer 37,000 s.f. of climbing, yoga, and fitness. This will include roughly 27,000 s.f. of climbing terrain spread over two floors with walls up to 50 feet high.
There will be classes for beginning climbers as well as advanced courses for those with experience. There will also be summer camps and competition teams, plus there will be group yoga and fitness classes.
Movement has more than two dozen locations open or in the works in seven states, including one other Virginia location. That gym is in the Crystal City area of Arlington.
Movement Fairfax is expected to open sometime towards the end of 2024.
The fact that the gym is going to be at Fair Oaks Mall is also noteworthy as this could signal a new use for the large spaces sitting vacant at many malls after department stores and other anchor stores have left.
