Another day, another new flight to and from our local airport — Dulles International. The latest route that was added this week — daily direct flights to San Diego.
The new service comes via Alaska Airlines which now serves 33 cities from IAD.
Fire trucks welcomed the first flight from San Diego Thursday with arcs of sprayed water as it taxied on the tarmac.
Inside, there was a ribbon cutting and other festivities to welcome the San Diego passengers and send off the Dulles passengers bound for Southern California.
It’s been a big season for IAD. From April through June, eight airlines — including four that were completely new to the airport — launched service to 11 different domestic and international destinations.
