“What the Schnitzel” German food truck launching this weekend

If you’re a fan of authentic German cuisine, you may want to pop over to Reston this weekend for the launch of a new food truck called What the Schnitzel.

For its first day in business, What the Schnitzel will be serving up a variety of schnitzel dishes, of course, and also spätzle, German potato salad, and apple strudel with rum raisins.

Schnitzel is a thin piece of meat that is tenderized, then breaded and fried. What the Schnitzel will have both chicken and pork versions — in international themed sandwiches such as Greek and Mexican as well as schnitzel in nugget form — called “schnuggets.”

There will also be vegetarian dishes available. You can check out the full What the Schnitzel menu here.

What the Schnitzel is the brainchild of German native Melanie Glover. She launched a German catering business in 2017 and wanted to reach more customers so she decided to launch the new truck.

This Saturday, July 29, the truck will hold its soft opening at the Reston YMCA from 12 noon to 5 p.m. The Y is at 12196 Sunset Hills Road just off the Dulles Toll Road. The news was first reported by our friends over at the FFX.now website.
