Banaras Xpress getting ready to open in Sterling

A change is afoot at a large Indian restaurant in Sterling. The Tamarind Indian Cuisine restaurant in the Potomac Run Plaza has closed and new owners are preparing to open a different restaurant there shortly.

The new restaurant will be called Banaras Xpress. It has taken over the nearly 6,000 s.f. space in the shopping center that was Tamarind. It’s located next door to the Panera Bread restaurant.

An employee told us they are making some renovations to the space and hope to be ready to open in a week or so.

According to its website, Banaras Xpress will feature an extensive menu with both vegetarian and meat-based dishes.

There will be Indian Fusion dishes, Indo-Chinese dishes, tandoori and biryani as well as chaat. You can see what they have planned by checking out the full Banaras Xpress menu here.

In case you were wondering, Banaras (also spelled Varanasi) is a holy city in India that is considered one of the oldest continually occupied places in the world, dating back some 2,500 years.
