Andy’s Pizza & Subs bidding farewell to Leesburg after 34 years

The owners of Andy’s Pizza and Subs — a long time restaurant on Leesburg’s south side — have announced that they are closing their doors.

The restaurant — also known as Andy’s A Taste of the Mediterranean — first opened in 1989.

It has changed and morphed over the decades and today is a large, 3,200-s.f. eatery located in the Shoppes at Kings Corner plaza at Catoctin Circle SW and King Street.

“It’s hard to believe that 34 years have passed,” the owners — Anwar Ghuzlan and Sheryl Weitzel wrote in a message on social media. “We have lived more than half our lives here and we’re not as “youngish” as we were. Still, the decision to end our fabulous journey in Leesburg has not been an easy one — to be honest, it’s been gut-wrenching.”

“To all of our customers —our friends and family, near and far —we cannot sufficiently express our gratitude, how lucky we are to know you, to serve you, and to cherish the memories you have helped us make,” it continued.

The last day for Andy’s in Leesburg will be this coming Sunday, September 24.

The owners will continue to operate their Andy’s location in Lovettsville and another venture they are planning to open in Hillsboro.
