Gringo Gordo Empanadas opens for business in Leesburg

Gringo Gordo Empanadas — a small but growing empanada restaurant chain — has expanded once again with the opening of its new store in downtown Leesburg.

Gringo Gordo is located in the Delirium Cafe building at the corner of King Street and Loudoun Street SE. The entrance is on the back side of the building near the parking lot.

The entrance to Gringo Gordo can be seen on the left, with a shingle sign and small set of stairs.

For folks who fondly remember the Balls of Glory meatball restaurant — Gringo Gordo is in that same spot.

The Gringo Gordo brand was founded out in Winchester, where there are currently two locations. A Purcellville store opened in 2022 and Leesburg is No. 4. A fifth location is in the works for Martinsburg, West Virginia.

The brand is now franchising and well-known local restaurateur Curtis Allred is the franchisee of the new Leesburg Gringo Gordo. He is already the owner of Delirium Cafe and decided to sign on with the new brand as a good fit for the separate space in his building.

The Gringo Gordo menu includes savory meat empanadas featuring fillings like Argentine Beef, Brisket, Pepperoni, and Smoked Chicken.

There are also veggie empanadas such as Black Bean & Corn, Mushroom & Kale, and Onion & Cheese. Sweet dessert empanadas include Apple Cinnamon, Caramel, and Guava. You can see the full Gringo Gordo menu here.

The restaurant is currently in a soft opening mode as the staff gets the new location’s operations running smoothly.
