Sheep fill the streets of tiny Loudoun village for annual journey

This morning marked one of our favorite days of the year in local Loudoun County lore. It was the annual sheep drive through the streets of the tiny village of Lincoln in western Loudoun.

Each year, in early January, the Cochran family moves their flock of sheep from their fall pasturelands to their home roughly two miles away at Stone Eden Farm.

Many of the ewes are coming home in order to have their spring babies. They usually begin giving birth in late January and the birthing season lasts several months.

Members of the Cochran family — along with several well-trained border collies — help heard the sheep on their journey.

Meanwhile, locals and visitors alike gather along the route to take in the spectacle which harkens back to another time.
