New Wingstop restaurant in the works for Loudoun

The Wingstop restaurant chain is all over the greater DC area — with at least 15 locations in the District and its Northern Virginia and Maryland suburbs.

But there has long been a dearth of Wingstops in Loudoun County. There is one lone outpost of the chicken wing purveyor that opened a decade ago off Route 7 in Sterling.

Now, it looks like Loudoun is getting a second Wingstop location. The Burn has learned that the company is eyeing a vacant restaurant space in Leesburg.

The specific spot is the former Sweetz Bakery location in the Battlefield Shopping Center. That’s the retail plaza off Edwards Ferry Road at the Leesburg Bypass, home to Dick’s Sporting Goods, DSW, Total Wine, Chipotle, Starbucks, Five Guys, and other stores and restaurants.

Sweetz closed this past summer and now we’ve learned that Wingstop is looking to take over the 1,800 s.f. space.

The Sweetz Bakery location that closed in the summer of 2023. It is reportedly now being considered for a future Wingstop restaurant.

If the deal is done, this would just be the latest in a series of positive headlines for the Battlefield Shopping Center.

Earlier this year, The Burn broke the news that both the Western apparel retailer Boot Barn and the healthy foods supermarket Sprouts are intending to open in the center.

If you haven’t been — as the name implies — Wingstop specializes in wings and related items in a variety of different flavors.

They have boneless and bone-in wings. They have tenders and chicken sandwiches. And there are more than a dozen flavors to choose from including Louisiana Rub, Mango Habanero, Lemon Pepper, and Garlic Parmesan.

They also have French fries in several different styles. You can check out the full Wingstop menu here.
