Fortunoff Backyard Store on its way to NoVa and Sterling

A new furniture store specializing in outdoor furniture for backyards and patios is making an aggressive move into the Northern Virginia market with three new stores — including one in Sterling.

Fortunoff Backyard Store is coming to the Sugarland Crossing shopping center off Route 7. That’s the same center with the Burlington Coat Factory, the JoAnn Fabric store, and a Chick-fil-A.

Fortunoff is taking a roughly 4,600 corner unit at the east end of the center.

“In 1922, Max and Clara Fortunoff wheeled a pushcart full of pots and pans down the streets of Brooklyn, New York, toward the Livonia Avenue Market,” the company’s website reads. “They called their shop-on-wheels Fortunoff’s, and from this humble beginning, a family business was born.”

Today, Fortunoff’s no longer sells cookware, instead focusing on outdoor tables and chairs, bar stools, pillows and cushions, fire pits, umbrellas, and other items found in backyards.

The brand currently has nearly 30 locations in New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. Now they’re headed to our neck of the woods.

Besides the new store in the works for Sterling, Fortunoffs also has stores simultaneously planned for Falls Church and Woodbridge here in Northern Virginia.
