Thunderbirds, Blue Angels flying over DC area Saturday

The flight is part of the “America Strong” program to honor healthcare workers around the country.

Well, we’ve got good news and bad news. The Air Force Thunderbirds and the Navy Blue Angels will be flying over the greater DC area on Saturday to honor all the medical personnel, first responders and healthcare workers fighting the coronavirus. The bad news — they won’t quite make it out here to Loudoun County.

The 20-minute long “America Strong” flyover is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 2. It will officially start at 11:45 a.m. in Prince George County, then travel south over the District and into Northern Virginia. Around 11:55 a.m., it should pass roughly over the Chantilly/Centreville area south of Dulles International before making a big loop back to the north and ending over the National Mall at 12:05 p.m.

“America Strong” is discouraging people from traveling to see the flyover and asking people watching it to maintain social distancing at all times.

“America Strong” teams started the flyovers earlier this week and is doing them across the nation. Besides DC, flyovers of Baltimore and Atlanta are also scheduled for Saturday. Below is an extended video featuring great images of the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds in their “America Strong” flyover of the New York City area on Tuesday.
