The new Planet Fitness coming to Leesburg has installed their sign out front. The gym will be located in the Leesburg Plaza at the intersection of Market Street and Plaza Street.
The sign may be up, but a look in the front door shows a fair amount of work still to be done. At this juncture, walls are being framed out. The 17,000+ s.f. space was the previous home of a Gold’s Gym and a Play It Again Sports store.
Planet Fitness caters to first-time and casual gym goers who may have never belonged to a gym before. They call it a “judgement free zone” where newbies to fitness can feel comfortable and work out at their own speed.
The Planet Fitness is the latest tenant to sign up for the Leesburg Plaza shopping center. A new freestanding Starbucks was recently built and opened in the center. Meanwhile, a new ResQ BBQ restaurant is in the works for a spot near the Planet Fitness. It will be right next to McCormick Paints, another new tenant.
The latest word we had on an opening date for the Leesburg Planet Fitness was sometime this fall. There is a date of September 18 circulating on the intrawebs, but that date has not been confirmed by PF HQ.
Minor correction: Play It Again Sports was never located next to the previous Gold’s Gym location; the adjacent storefronts which were evacuated to make room for the new Planet Fitness were a Lendmark and a Hair Cuttery. Play It Again Sports is in the nearby shopping center with the Giant supermarket, and is still open, to my knowledge.
Hi Derek. Actually, Play It Again Sports used to be located where the Planet Fitness is going in. I believe the address was 530 E. Market Street. I used to shop there with my boys. At some point, it relocated in the center to its current location.
