Folks looking for a cool treat have a new local spot to try out. JR’s Soft Serve & Italian Ice has set up shop in Old Ashburn and will celebrate its grand opening this Saturday and Sunday. The fun includes a face painter from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Many of you may already be familiar with JR’s. They’ve had an Italian Ice cart serving creamy New York-style Italian ices at the Leesburg outlet mall since 2011. They also show up at events around the DC area.
Recently, they decided to open a brick-and-mortar location and Ashburn was the winner. They picked a spot in the small strip center at 20693 Ashburn Road.
The shop will offer a large number of Italian ice flavors including such interesting ones as Salted Caramel, Mango, Blue Razz and Jolly Rancher. JR’s will also offer several soft serve ice cream flavors as well as dips that your cone can be dunked in. They will offer floats, shakes and other interesting ice cream treats — what they call “creations.”
While the official grand opening is Saturday from 12-9 p.m. and Sunday from 12-8 p.m., we’ve heard that JR’s will be doing a soft opening tomorrow (Friday), so early birds might be able to check it out even sooner.
YES!!!! Ashburn needs an ice cream shop!

NO!!!!! Ashburn doesn’t need a soft serve ice cream shop. Save that chemical laden garbage for Dairy Queen.
