For local foodies who are always looking for more variety in Ashburn’s dining choices, you’re in luck. A new fast-casual restaurant specializing in the cuisine of Yemen is scheduled to open soon in north Ashburn.
The new restaurant is called Mandi Express and is a sister restaurant to the House of Mandi in Arlington. Mandi is a traditional dish usually made from rice, meat (lamb or chicken), and a mixture of spices. It’s cooked in a tandoor oven.
According to one of the owners, Yemeni cuisine is popular throughout the Middle East and Yemeni chefs are hired to work in many Arab countries due to their unique recipes and skills.
Mandi Express will be taking over the space vacated by the recently closed Apna Kabob. Many of you will more likely remember this as the location of the Coney Island Diner in the office building just off Route 7 next to the Virginia Academy.
