Cake or Death Cafe coming to Leesburg

The new shop will serve cupcakes and champagne.

A new cupcake and champagne bar is being planned for downtown Leesburg. It’s the latest creative culinary endeavor from serial restauranteur Curtis Allred.

The new shop will be called the Cake or Death Cafe and will be located at 29 South King Streeet. (Cake or Death is a reference to a popular comedy routine by British comic Eddie Izzard.)

In a message to The Burn, Allred describes his new enterprise thusly: “Cake or Death is focused on presenting creative pastries, cakes, and cupcakes for individual consumption. We will have a small (approx. 14 seats) counter, as well as a handful of small tables and chairs where folks can relax and enjoy a Court of Master’s Sommelier selected list of sparkling wines, after-dinner drinks, and plenty of non-alcoholic sparklers for the kids.”

Cake or Death will also be a full-fledged bakery where people can order cakes and other baked treats for events and special occasions. The target is to have it open in time for the upcoming holiday season.

The new dessert shop is just the latest in a string of Leesburg food outlets for Allred. He is also the owner of the Delirium Cafe Belgian beer cafe, the Balls of Glory meatball shop and the under construction Wild Wood Pizzeria at the Village at Leesburg.

Any updates on this? Did it open and I missed it?

I believe Mr. Allred decided not proceed with a storefront location. He may still be bringing it in some other form.
