“Ice” skating coming to One Loudoun for one day only

It’s part of the 7th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting event.

One of Ashburn’s favorite annual events will be happening this Saturday, December 7. We’re talking about the 7th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting at One Loudoun. This year, they’ve got something new and wild planned — an ice skating rink right next to the main plaza.

How can they set up an ice rink in just a day, you might ask. We’re told the rink — which will be open from 2 to 8 pm Saturday — is actually a high-quality synthetic ice that mimics the feeling of skating on real ice. The skating is free and skates will be provided. (No outside skates allowed.)

The ice rink is being sponsored by the Ashburn Ice House.

The Tree Lighting event itself runs from 5 to 7 p.m. During that time, there will be musical performances by local groups, food from area restaurants and vendors from local businesses. There will also be Santa photos, horse and carriage rides, a kid’s craft tent and more.

Of course, the capper is the actual lighting of the 30-foot tall tree, a  fir brought in from Loudoun Nursery in Purcellville. It’s decorated with more than 300 lights and takes 125 hours to install and decorate. The switch for the tree lighting will be thrown at approximately 5:30 pm on Saturday, so make sure you’re in position to get a good view.

No such thing as a “Holiday” tree.
