Sugar Shack Donuts becoming Corner Donuts in Lansdowne

The restaurant will add breakfast sandwiches to its menu.

Changes coming to the Sugar Shack Donuts location in Lansdowne Square, immediately adjacent to the Lansdowne Town Center.  The doughnut shop has changed its name to Corner Donuts and Coffee and will soon expand its menu.

The Burn spoke with Tag Greason, a former member of the Virginia House of Delegates and an investor in four Sugar Shack locations in the greater DC area, including Lansdowne. Greason says challenges have arisen with the Sugar Shack brand, which is based in Richmond, and the local group is parting ways and forming separate, independent restaurants.

The Lansdowne location is becoming Corner Donuts. Greason says they will still carry a wide array of gourmet donuts, as well as coffee drinks and smoothies. Plus, a variety of breakfast sandwiches will be added to the menu soon.

Separately, the other three DC-area Sugar Shack locations are going in a different direction and will be turning into a new brand called Elizabeth’s Counter. That restaurant will feature a new plant-based menu that goes beyond doughnuts to include pastries as well as plant-based burgers, vegan chicken dishes and more.

Greason says restauranteur Tony Stafford of Ford’s Fish Shack fame has been offering invaluable advice as Corner Donuts has been working on the change-over.

The transition in Lansdowne from Sugar Shack Donuts to Corner Donuts is already underway — signs are up around the store — and a formal announcement of a grand re-opening event should be coming soon. Meanwhile, the shop will be staying open throughout the change, with its regular hours.

Everytime I want a Sugar Shack Donut they are closed….those limited hours in the morning really hurt sales I would think.
