Ever since Walmart left its spot on Edwards Ferry Road and moved to the new Compass Creek development out near the Leesburg airport, folks have wondered what was going to happen to the massive 90,000+ s.f. space they left behind.
Now we have some news — it’s likely to be a giant warehouse store called Floor & Decor.
It became public just last week that the old Walmart building had sold. According to reports, it was purchased by an LLC for $7.25 million.
Now comes word that Floor & Decor, a chain of warehouse stores selling tile, wood, laminates, stone and other flooring products, as well as many other items, is planning to lease that spot from the LLC. In filings with the Town of Leesburg, they’re asking for a “zoning concept plan amendment to allow a 92,253 sq. ft. flooring store” at 950 Edwards Ferry Road, which is the old Walmart’s address.
Floor & Decor operates roughly 100 warehouse stores around the country. The company is based in an Atlanta suburb. The brand also has outlet stores and smaller design centers in its portfolio. The closest Floor & Decor locations to Loudoun are in Gaithersburg, Alexandria and Woodbridge.
