Big Bowl in Reston Town Center closes permanently

The restaurant had been a stalwart of the center, opening nearly two decades ago.

Big Bowl, the prominent Chinese and Thai restaurant at the heart of the Reston Town Center, is closing after nearly two decades in business. The restaurant made the announcement on its website.

“Big Bowl in the Reston Town Center will not be reopening as the restaurant’s lease is expiring. We appreciate our many loyal guests and employees that have supported us over the last 19 years, our team has enjoyed serving you,” the statement read.

Big Bowl sits at the intersection of Library Street and Democracy Drive, opposite Jackson’s Mighty Fine Food and Uncle Julio’s Mexican Restaurant. Its circular facade with giant letters and big red bowl is a landmark in the RTC. No word yet on what will take over that space.

Big Bowl is part of the Chicago-based Lettuce Entertain You restaurant group that also includes the Mon Ami Gabi location in the RTC. According to the company’s website, there are six other Big Bowl locations — all in the Midwest.

I liked that place, but stopped going to all Reston Town Center places when they started charging to parking. I know they have to do something once the metro opens, but before then it is just pure greed and it’s the merchants that suffer.
