XCAL is the new shooting sports and fitness center coming to Ashburn. The huge facility — roughly 95,000 s.f. — is under construction on Russell Branch Parkway, right next door to Topgolf. The Burn got a tour of the construction site this week, and the XCAL team shared the menu from their upcoming Midway Cafe, the onsite restaurant planned for the center.
The restaurant — which will be open to the general public — will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dishes include lots of healthy options, including breakfast sandwiches, flatbread pizzas and build-your-own grain bowls. You can see the current version of the menu below this story, although there could still be tweaks between now and opening day.
The sheer size and scope of XCAL is difficult to describe. The facility includes a huge shooting range featuring the latest technology and many innovative design elements. There are separate buildings, double ceilings and a tremendous amount of sound-proofing so that people in other parts of the facility will not hear the shooting range. The range includes a 10-bay range, five private ranges and a tactical range.
There is also a large retail showroom for firearms and accessories as well as classrooms for firearms education and training.
On the second floor, there will be a huge fitness center featuring free weights, weight machines, group exercise classrooms as well as some really high-tech training equipment having to do with reflexes, reaction time and hand-eye coordination.
There is also a private members-only Apex club with meeting rooms, a billiards room, a second kitchen and a bar. We asked the obvious question — a bar in the same building as a shooting range? The XCAL team said to purchase a drink, you swipe your membership card. This will instantly lock you out from the shooting range for the rest of the day. The bar is only for members of the Apex club, and for special events that will be held at the facility.
An official opening date hasn’t been set yet. They are hoping the construction work will be done by December and the opening will likely be early in the new year.
