“Spicy” Indian restaurant coming to Ashburn Farm

A new Indian restaurant will be opening soon in the Ashburn Farm Market Center (aka Junction Plaza). It’s called Ashirvad Indian Cuisine and its motto is the interestingly worded “Taste of Spicy.”

Ashirvad is coming to the space that used to be another Indian restaurant called Chennai Express.

The spot is noteworthy because despite Chennai Express operating inside, the sign overhead continued to read “Asian Wok” — apparently left over from a previous tenant.

The Asian Wok sign is gone now and a banner announcing Ashirvad Indian Cuisine is hanging over the door.

The name Ashirvad is a Hindi word related to a blessing or good wishes. Beyond the promise of “spicy,” there’s no word yet on what the menu will look like. We’re told it’s still being finalized.

Kerala-style appam, or rice batter pancakes

However, on social media, the Ashirvad team posted a photo of Kerala-style appam. Kerala is a state in southern India and appam are a type of traditional pancake made with rice batter and coconut milk.

So far, the official line from the folks at Ashirvad is that they are “opening soon.” We’re told it will hopefully be in the next few weeks.

Kerala is not a city, it is a state. “Spicy” Indian restaurant, sounds scary. I think Taste of Spice is not Spicy restaurant.

Thanks. We knew Kerala was a state. Not sure why we typed city. Thanks for the correction.
