Leesburg hobby shop will shut its doors Saturday

Sad news on the local retail scene as the Leesburg Hobbies & Collectibles shop has announced that they will close their doors for good on Saturday. This after 21 years doing business in downtown Leesburg.

The store on West Market Street announced back in November that it was closing, but the final date wasn’t known. Sales have been underway as the owners have been reducing their inventory. Now, the end is in sight.

The Craig family, which has operated the store since they opened it in 2001, told the Loudoun Now newspaper that after Mike Craig, the family patriarch, passed away this summer, the store is too much for the rest of the family to manage along with their other jobs and responsibilities.

Model trains were initially the main focus on the store, but over the years, Leesburg Hobbies & Collectibles became well-known among area scouting families. The store carried a wide array of Boy Scout and Girl Scout merchandise, including awards, badges and uniforms.

The store also carried many of the popular role-playing games and trading card games that have ardent followers.

For its final day Saturday, the store will be open from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. No word on what new business might take over the space.
