Dulles International getting raft of new restaurants

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority today announced two dozen new restaurant and retail concessions that will be coming to Dulles International and Reagan International.

14 of them are headed to our “local” airport — Dulles International. Along with a bookstore, an electronics store and various sundry stores, there are also several new restaurants. These include:

  • Gatsby — a full-service D.C.-based restaurant and bar with desserts by Mah Ze Dahr Bakery
  • Sfoglina — a full-service restaurant bar, and patio
  • Rappahannock Oyster Co. — local oysters from the Rappahannock River and Chesapeake Bay
  • Starbucks — a new location of the national coffeehouse chain
  • Potbelly — a fast-casual sandwich shop
  • Freshii — offers bowls, smoothies and more, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options
  • Auntie Anne’s — a new location of the well-known pretzel shop brand

If you sometimes fly in and out of Reagan International, as many of us do, you may be interested in the new restaurants coming to that airport. They include:

  • Dos Toros Taqueria —  a fast-casual taqueria using fresh sustainably sourced ingredients
  • Atlas Brew Works — a D.C.-based artisanal beer purveyor with healthy food options
  • Zeke’s Coffee — a Maryland-based coffee shop with grab-and-go menu
  • Cava Mezze Grill — a Mediterranean fast-casual restaurant featuring customizable salads, pitas and grains
  • Half Moon Empanadas — specializing in fresh empanadas made in-shop daily
  • Compass Coffee — serving handcrafted, ethically sourced coffee as well as breakfast items, healthy salads, sandwiches and baked goods

The new concessions are part of a redevelopment program going on at both airports that aims to bring in a wider variety of dining choices as well as healthier dining choices. It also wants to create a “sense of place” with more local brands and dishes as part of the mix.

Some new concessions should open later this year and continue to roll out through the end of the redevelopment plan in 2026.
