Ashburn’s Emily Fox playing on America’s World Cup team

The FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament which starts today, will likely have a lot of viewers here in Ashburn and Loudoun County.

That’s because one of the members of the roster is none other than Ashburn native and Stone Bridge High School grad Emily Fox.

Fox, 25, played for the North Carolina Tar Heels in college, and plays professionally as a defender for the North Carolina Courage.

She was first called up to the United States Women’s National Team in 2018 and she was named to the 2023 World Cup roster on June 21.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup is played every four years with national teams from countries around the world competing. This year’s tournament is being held in Australia and New Zealand.

The first matches kick off today and the first contest with the American team is scheduled for tomorrow evening — Friday, July 21 — at 9 p.m when the USA takes on the team from Vietnam.

That match will be broadcast on the Fox network and will also be available streaming on Peacock and other channels.

If you would like to learn more about Emily Fox, our partner publication Ashburn Magazine featured the soccer star in a cover story last year. You can see that issue and the article here.
