Sneak peek inside Leesburg’s new Anchor Bar restaurant

The new Anchor Bar restaurant in Leesburg is just about ready to roll and they’ve been holding some practice nights this weekend ahead of an imminent opening.

These preview events are usually conducted with friends and family members as guests and allow the new staff to test out all the equipment and systems and practice their service and so forth.

The Anchor Bar is located in the Village at Leesburg center at the same end as the Wegmans grocery store.

It’s taken over the space vacated by Eggspectation when that restaurant closed its doors in 2020.

According to the restaurant’s history, back in 1964 one of the bartenders at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo NY asked his mom to make something for some hungry friends. She fried up some wings and topped them with spicy sauce and the Buffalo wing was born.

Sixty years later, Anchor Bar is expanding around the eastern United States — including its first Virginia location in Leesburg.

The new restaurant has a large bar as well as a dining room and separate spaces for private events. There is also a large outside patio.

The exact opening date hasn’t been set — some final T’s have to be crossed so to speak — but the management says they should be ready to welcome guests within the next week.
